Under one week to go

September 24, 2020 by Richard Hudson

It’s under one week to go before Shoes Have Names opens for London Craft Week and Shelter King’s Cross is drowning in red. We’ve had deliveries of red cable ties, red clips, red LED lights, fixtures, fittings. This is not including the 400 bricks which buck the red trend by being dark grey and very, very heavy!

We’ve also spent over a year painstakingly collecting and curating a selection of red vintage, designer and on-trend pieces to be for sale during the week. Amongst other things we are currently storing a red vintage kimono, red Dunlop sports bags, records, Armani suits and even a red visor.

Jo and I spent last Friday night building an exhibition mock-up and it seems storing all this red will be worth it. The shop is going to look entirely different with an almost un-recognisable central island, an audio corner, a sunken display cabinet and huge information boards hanging from the ceiling.

In using our Shelter Boutique space for this amazing project we are showing how fashion, retail and art can be a creative and exciting vessel to amplify Shelter’s powerful messages and our service user’s important stories. How exciting to push the boundaries of what a charity shop can do!
