About Shelter
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through advice, support, and legal services. Shelter exists to fight for all those whose lives are blighted by the loss of their home – and all whose lives will be affected if things don’t change.
Last year, Shelter gave information, support, and advice to millions of people facing homelessness or experiencing bad housing.
And Shelter campaigns to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to them for help.
Shelter advice and support services across the UK give people one-to-one, personalised help with all of their housing issues.
A free emergency helpline is open 365 days a year and is often the first port of call for people facing a housing crisis.
You can find expert information about everything from reclaiming your deposit to applying as homeless, and you can talk to an adviser over webchat.
Shelter solicitors provide free legal advice and attend court to help people who’ve lost their homes or are facing eviction.
Kobi’s inspiration
Home Void - A home is a basic necessity everyone should have.
A home is both a place you belong to and a personal sanctuary, where you are safe and can have your own privacy and peace. In our society a place you can call home becomes a property first, a part of the economic game rather than a natural right for everybody.
Economy is an important part of modern society which has positive aspects to it, but does it have to erase certain rights like being able to afford a place to live? In the reality of so many people being without a place to live, or close to it, the 'rules of the game' need to be rethought.
When making this shoe, in which I was paired with Shelter Charity as the inspiration, I considered that a home is a very subjective term to define with a shape and form.
I decided to take out a generic home symbol from the shoes to create a void, showing that we assume a home is something that should be there for everyone.

The exhibition is open from 30th January to 2nd April at New Brewery Arts. It’s free to visit.
Support Shelter charity shops
This exhibition first appeared at a Shelter boutique in London. We wanted to connect shopping, fashion and craft to tell stories of homelessness. Whenever you pre-loved donate clothes, or buy from us you’re helping Shelter fight the housing emergency that is devastating lives.
